BioDevelopment Inc. (BDI) is part of the BioSpectra Organization. Our mission is to manufacture the highest quality, GMP small molecules in Kilo-Scale quantities. Our 10,000 square foot facility is housed at the UABDC complex: University of Albany Bio Development Corp. Its three massive buildings date back to Sterling Pharma, situated right across the street from Regeneron. In 2021 half of the top floor of Building C became available and we began the long journey of renovation into what it is today – a world class, state of the art GMP Kilo Scale manufacturing facility. At the time we started the project (pre- covid) the world was a different place. Obtaining equipment as well as personnel became a daunting task over the next two+ years. That task goes on today even as we officially open our facility for business.
We believe that working in a brand new facility with brand new, world class equipment, can provide an exciting work and career experience for Chemical Operators, Synthetic Chemists, Process Engineers Analytical Chemist and support staff.
The purpose of this new Kilo-Scale facility is to complement our two other (large scale) main production facilities located in Stroudsburg and Bangor PA, as each of these facilities operate at a different scale of production. For instance, Stroudsburg plant produces batches in the 1500- 3,000 kilo range (with one suite that goes up to 12,000 kilos). Bangor produces batches from 150-300 kilos with most of our suites but since we opened our new massive GMP warehouse to clear out more production space, we now have suites in Bangor that go from 150 kilos all the way up to 14,000 kilos. Neither of those facilities however are well suited for scale development and finished good manufacturing in the 1-15 kilo batch range. The configuration of the space we acquired allows us to build out seven small kilo-scale manufacturing suites with all supporting offices, gowning, equipment, storage and utilities rooms. It’s a self-contained GMP Kilo Scale multi-purpose facility that complements our other manufacturing platforms. Further, it allows us to expand our reach into the market by working with innovators at the pre- clinical and clinical scale level as well as our larger clients who have similar needs. This facility will allow us to be a more complete CMO for many companies seeking a partner for the evolution of their commercial products from bench to bulk.
